OUR STORY

Sylvia and Breaker Roberts are the owners and co-founders of Vie Pilates, established in 2004. Married and living on the Gold Coast, Australia, they manage and teach from their fully equipped Pilates studio which is located in Varsity Lakes, overlooking beautiful Lake Orr.

Drawing on their respective careers - Sylvia as a professional ballet dancer and experienced Pilates practitioner, and Breaker as a qualified chef and martial arts instructor - both Sylvia and Breaker bring a lifetime of knowledge and experience to their clients. They aim to promote a holistic approach to health and well-being through movement whilst incorporating mindfulness and nutrition.

Their Pilates practice also integrates elements of dance conditioning, calisthenics, gymnastic progressions and functional mobility exercises. It is this amalgamation of contrasting elements that makes Sylvia and Breaker’s approach to movement unique, progressive and ever evolving. Together they provide tailored programs and personalized instruction to meet their clients' individual needs and goals.

Online, they have built a large following and are regarded as leaders in their field. Over the past 17 years Sylvia and Breaker have worked with many professional sports people and celebrities and their classes are currently featured on Chris Hemsworth’s Centr app. Despite working with some of Hollywood’s A-listers, their real passion is making fitness fun and accessible for everyday people of all ages and abilities.

SYLVIA ROBERTS

Internationally renowned Pilates teacher Sylvia Roberts offers a rich and profound understanding of Pilates and movement. As a former professional ballet dancer, with over 25 years experience in studying and practicing Pilates, Sylvia brings a great depth of knowledge to her teaching.

Sylvia has helped hundreds of clients transform their bodies, and is currently the Pilates expert on Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky’s Centr app. The beauty of Sylvia’s method of teaching is that people everywhere can have access to the same training, and the same ever-evolving workouts as the red carpet's biggest stars, either in her boutique Gold Coast studio or online from their own living rooms.

Sylvia takes pride in making her workouts accessible to everybody and considers teaching an artistic process likened to that of creating a sculpture. Clients often report dramatic shifts in their body awareness; reduction of pain, increased agility and a renewed sense of freedom in everyday movement.

Her practice is grounded in personal experience and her approach is strongly influenced by her initial training as a dancer. As a very late starter to dance, she soon realized that in order to achieve advancement in her professional career, ballet classes were simply not enough. Through discovering the Pilates method she acquired the tools to feel stronger, leaner and more powerful, whilst drastically improving her technique and posture.

The hard work paid off and after dancing for only a few short years she received her first professional ballet contract, starting with Singapore’s premier professional dance company, Singapore Dance Theatre and later with the Royal New Zealand Ballet Company (RNZB).

Drawing upon a dynamic career in dance, Sylvia prides herself on creating a warm atmosphere free of judgement and competition. Through her extensive experience and expertise she has developed a sustainable and safe practice that encourages her students to listen to their bodies and seek calm.

Sylvia has been featured in many reputable publications such as Women’s Health, Women’s Fitness and The Guardian, as well as working with high profile activewear brands such as Lorna Jane, Reebok and Lululemon.

BREAKER ROBERTS

Breaker comes from a background in commercial cookery and is a fully qualified chef. During his 13 years in the restaurant industry he started to experience debilitating back spasms and recurring pain. Despite being physically fit and regularly going to the gym he struggled to overcome persistent niggling injuries and nagging aches and pain.

Acupuncture and physiotherapy offered some short-term relief but nothing really worked long term until, Sylvia recommended that he try Pilates.

Breaker immersed himself in the classical Pilates method and trained conscientiously every day. His extensive background in various martial arts such as Kung Fu and kickboxing blended well with the discipline and consistency required when regularly practising Pilates.

Breaker felt revitalised and renewed and after over a decade of training decided to put aside his career as a chef and teach in partnership with Sylvia at Vie Pilates.

He attained his comprehensive certification from Body Arts and Science International (BASI, QLD) and teacher certification at the Pilates Method Alliance (PMA).

Nowadays he’s completely pain free and loves playing with his kids, surfing and meditation.

Breaker still sees himself as a student and is always looking for new challenges and learning opportunities. He brings a great depth of knowledge and is dedicated to sharing his understanding of the human body and its capacity for movement.
